Extensive green roof with a 45-degree slope

An extensive green roof with a steep 45-degree slope was built in Brădești, near Odorheiu Secuiesc.

The challenge of the project was integrating 11 Velux windows into this Sedum-covered roof. Due to the steep slope, specially designed stabilization systems were used, with the entire substructure secured by a three-dimensional prestressed cable system, so the whole green roof structure rests over the root-resistant waterproofing like a “cap.”

The Sedum mats are reinforced with a double layer of geogrids, and the plants were pre-cultivated for 2 years in a biodegradable coconut fiber mat. Because of the south and southwest exposure of two key sections of the roof, and the lightweight structure, the roof is equipped with an automated irrigation system.

The photos show the condition at the time of installation and about one month later. We estimate that by June 2017 it will reach a high aesthetic value, as at least one year is needed for Sedum plants to fully acclimate on a steep green roof or green terrace.
