Sloped green roof – holiday cottage

Extensive sloped green roof built on a holiday home in Corbeanca

This green roof was a challenge, as it required just-in-time coordination of the delivery of all system components, as well as synchronization of machinery, so that the entire installation could be completed in a single day. As often happens in Romania, one truck was delayed by an hour, the crane by three hours, yet despite all this, the project was successfully completed by nightfall—an extensive sloped green roof covered with reinforced vegetation rolls using geogrids and cultivated in coconut fiber.

The special extensive green roof substrate was stabilized on the slope using anti-slip elements supported by a dedicated structure installed above the drainage and water retention layers. In this case, a lightweight structure with high water retention capacity was used in order not to overload the roof’s load-bearing structure. As a result, this special substrate, despite having enhanced water retention properties, has a thickness of only 5 cm, while still providing an adequate growing medium for the plants already rooted in the 2–3 cm thick vegetation roll.

The 1.2 m wide vegetation rolls, cut precisely to match the roof dimensions, were unrolled from one side of the roof to the other. This installation method also provides high resistance to sliding, as the weight is evenly balanced on both sides of the roof, eliminating the need for additional slope stabilization of the vegetation.

This installation method allows the vegetation to establish more quickly, as it is subjected to minimal handling stress, while providing the beneficiary with a green roof that already has an aesthetically pleasing appearance at the moment of installation.

At this slope angle, the mixed vegetation composed of various sedum species contains a higher percentage of sedum album, which creates a greener, richer habitat compared to other species, while the remaining species contribute to increased biodiversity of the vegetative carpet (an additional 10 sedum species).

Like any green roof, this one will appear fully stabilized and harmoniously developed only after approximately 1–2 growing seasons. We will return with new photos as the vegetation continues to mature.

Below we present some of our representative landscape projects, which have proven their durability, developing harmoniously as expected, and which we are proud of, together with the beneficiaries.

We provide consultancy for the implementation of green terraces and green roofs, offering optimal solutions tailored to the specific requirements of your project. We deliver turnkey solutions and long-term maintenance for intensive and extensive green roofs and terraces, using durable construction materials and specially cultivated vegetation rolls for green roofs—whether extensive, intensive, or landscape-type.

These solutions range from ultra-lightweight or lightweight vegetated roofs to intensive developments such as parks, recreational and landscape areas, pedestrian or vehicular paving, green roofs combined with solar panels, vertical gardens on interior or exterior walls, office buildings with intensive green terraces offering relaxation areas, or shopping centers with parking and intensive landscape-type green roofs located on top of the building.

Every green roof project we deliver offers the best cost–efficiency–operational safety ratio, providing green terrace system solutions adapted to your project’s specific needs. We are at your disposal with designs, system solutions, cost estimates for green roofs, and specialized consultancy.
