In the vicinity of Basarab Bridge, in an area dominated by heavy infrastructure and intense traffic, an extensive green roof with irrigation was created, covering approximately 4,300 m².

The project was conceived pragmatically, without demonstrative gestures, with an emphasis on functionality and proper long-term performance. The extensive system allows for a reduced structural load while providing a stable vegetated surface adapted to challenging urban conditions.

Sedum was the natural choice: resilient to drought, wind, and high temperatures, yet capable of producing spectacular blooms during favorable periods. At peak flowering times, the roof becomes a distinct splash of color, contrasting with the surrounding grey. The irrigation system is discreetly integrated and operates strictly when necessary, as a safety measure rather than a permanent dependency.

An important detail is the roof’s visibility from Basarab Bridge. From above, amid the continuous flow of cars and trains, the green roof is clearly visible and looks good without any artificial embellishment. It is one of the few vegetated surfaces that can be clearly seen from the city’s major infrastructure, offering a moment of visual relief.

Execution across such a large surface required careful logistics and rigorous coordination of the teams. Every stage was planned with durability in mind, rather than immediate visual impact. The result is a roof that performs its function correctly and looks good, including when viewed from above.
