The flat extensive green roof built in Bistrița-Năsăud tells a story that began long before the first green shoots appeared. The clients, who spend a large part of their day in front of a computer, wanted a home that is not only functional but also breathes together with the surrounding nature. Not a cold, isolated villa, but a place that gives rest to the eyes and the mind when you step onto the terrace or look out the window.

The photos clearly show the construction process, step by step. Nothing was done in haste. Each layer was installed like part of a delicate balancing act—where a single mistake could compromise the entire system.

The real challenge, however, was not the technology but the logistics. Difficult access to the residential area completely ruled out the use of cranes or heavy machinery. Everything had to be carried up manually: bags, rolls, substrate, drainage elements. A great deal of physical work, patience, and coordination—effort that does not appear in the final photos, yet without which the green roof would not exist.

The result is a harmonious yet discreet green roof that does not seek attention but fits perfectly into the rhythm of the place. In summer it cools the house, in autumn it takes on warm tones, and in spring it creates the feeling that nature is slowly but surely climbing up onto the roof. A small green refuge for people who needed, more than anything else, a sense of calm.
