Ultra-light extensive green roof on the Kaufland store in Bragadiru

The ultra-light extensive green roof built on the Kaufland store in Bragadiru was a logistical challenge, given an overcrowded construction site and a project handover deadline of only a few days.

The green area covers 1,800 m², with layers consisting of geotextile for protection and water retention, Green Roll Urbanscape hydrophilic mineral wool, lightweight porous mineral substrate, and a vegetation layer. Being an ultra-light project with relatively low water retention, a 12-zone irrigation system was installed to ensure the vegetation’s water requirements.

The execution itself was complicated by material lifting issues, delayed almost a full day due to a malfunctioning crane. However, the deadline was met by working up to 18 hours daily to recover the delay caused by the crane, even while simultaneously working on another Kaufland project in Constanța.
