2,900 m² irrigated ultra-lightweight green roof on a new Kaufland supermarket in Constanța

In the spring of 2019, we executed this impressive project: a 2,900 m² extensive green terrace on the roof of a new Kaufland supermarket in Constanța, which was still under construction at that time.

The system used is an ultra-lightweight system with a specific layer structure. Urbanscape hydrophilic mineral wool combined with a thin mineral substrate layer provides the minimum conditions required for extensive sedum vegetation. The irrigation system is mandatory in this case, especially as the coastal climate can impose extreme conditions on the vegetation, and the client wanted the roof to remain green throughout the growing season, without significant fluctuations in plant coverage or color.

Storing and lifting materials in such large quantities, in the middle of an active construction site, represented the greatest challenge, so the work had to be strictly phased.

In parallel, a similar system was built in the suburbs of Bucharest, so the team had to commute between the two sites for a month until both projects were completed.
